September 2026 Canadian Pickleball Roundup
September is one of the busiest stretches on the Canadian pickleball calendar, and this month is no exception. From grassroots charity tournaments to Premier tier APA stops and the CNPL Playoff Championships in Waterloo, there is something happening on courts from coast to coast. Here is your rundown of the events worth watching, the players to follow, and the TSS built facilities where you can get on court yourself.
Player Spotlight: Matt Kawamoto
Toronto United heads into the CNPL playoffs on a nine game winning streak, sitting second in the Premier standings with a spot secured at The Club at Northfield in Waterloo, September 25 to 27. For founding member Matt Kawamoto, the run is the latest chapter in a story that started with a swing and a miss.
Matt's first pickleball shot, back in May 2016, sailed right through the ball. He had played tennis recreationally, and the slower, lower pace caught him off guard. That was also the month his mom discovered the sport and got the whole family hooked. Matt played almost every day that summer, entered his first tournament within a month, and made it to provincials three months later.
Nearly a decade on, Matt is part of Toronto United's first championship season alongside Ricky, George and Andrew.
"TSS is a huge sponsor of ours. It helps us afford and make our dream livable."
For Matt, the draw has always been the people.
"The pickleball community was so small, everyone seemed like family," he says, pointing to friendships that now stretch across four decades in age and nearly a decade in time.
Here is what is happening on courts across the country this month.
